Duafe Sisterhood & Brotherhood Conference May-June 2026
DUAFE is Back in Greater Accra!

We returned to Greater Accra with our project after being invited by two exceptional schools: the Future Leaders School in Accra on May 9th, and the Evergreen Royal Academy in Tema on June 13th.
Two events. Two different locations. A total of 200 kids, all curious about the world and eager to learn more about themselves, growing up, and their peers. Plus, over 20 volunteers ready to take on the challenge!

Each meeting kicked off with a talent show that helped break the ice and get everyone warmed up. There were sports, interactive games, and the special program even featured a crash course in Chinese, a ballet performance, and traditional dance straight from the heart of Ghana.

Time for a Chat

Next, the children were split into six groups to participate in workshops focused on the key challenges and experiences of growing up:

  • Menstrual Health and Hygiene
  • Mental Health Awareness and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Addiction Awareness and Prevention
  • Respect, Healthy Relationships, and Personal Responsibility
  • Sex Education
The workshops kicked off with an interactive quiz testing their knowledge of puberty and the changes that come with growing up. Each topic was then explored in 45-minute sessions, guided by experts and—most importantly—with the active participation of the kids themselves. There were plenty of questions, lively discussions, laughter, and meaningful moments as participants shared their own thoughts and experiences.

One highlight was a special presentation by one of the students on teenage mental health, focusing on the factors that can contribute to rising anxiety levels among young people.

Quality Time Together

After the intense workshops, it was time to share a meal. Sitting in smaller groups, the real chatter, jokes, laughter, and simple joy of spending time together bloomed. These were the moments when the lessons learned during the sessions turned into genuine connections and real relationship-building.

At the end of the day, everyone gathered once again to share their highlights, recite a collective affirmation, and celebrate taking another step into young adulthood. The kids walked through a colorful balloon archway, symbolically marking the completion of their workshop journey. Finally, each participant received a Teen Kit, carefully and lovingly prepared thanks to the generosity of our sponsors.

These two events showed us once again just how vital it is to create a safe space for honest conversations about growing up, emotions, relationships, health, and responsibility. And just how much can be achieved when young people are given the chance to ask questions, share their experiences, and simply be heard.
